SPORT, SPORT, SPORT

Being a man at the peak physical fitness I of course love sport, I play, watch and basically life stops for sport…….

Ok ok I am lying. The love for sport that should have started on the playground, in my case never quite materialised. With one notable exception, which I will come to later running for no particular reason confuses me and thus sport left me cold. My feelings on sport were not exactly helped by nights spent sat in the pouring rain photographing the skills of top footballing sides such Chester FC and Wrexham FC for the Evening Leader. Now don’t get me wrong I love the challenge of photographing sport it just does not hold the same passion for me as other subjects.

With this as background it was a surprise to be hired over the past couple week to do some high profile sports jobs for TNR Communications and had great fun doing them. The first job was photographing Gareth Bale in BT Sports new TV studios on the Olympic park. What with Gareth Bale Winning both PFA awards this year, being on the hallowed ground of London 2012 and Bale’s team Tottenham and West Ham’s very public fight over the Olympic stadium this could not be any more sport nor more high profile. Not to mention the announcement itself that BT intend to challenge sky for dominance of TV sport. So what did I do, I turned up and did some nicely lit portraits.

He is kicking a ball, that counts as sport action right? Just as a note this is very first shot to go out to the newspapers with all my lights in, cliché I know but this case looked good.

Now I mentioned there was an exception, I am the good son of a welsh man and therefore rugby just runs in my veins. I played union from the age of 7 till 16 and the 6 Nations means a great deal to me. So it was quite something to be asked to photograph two of the players who helped bring trophy to wales this year after trashing England and other member of this year’s Lions squad. They were on Parsons Green doing a rugby day with Thomas Pink. Sharp suits and rugby players, suspect this section will be desperately unpopular with the ladies. Enjoy
